CHIANG MAI

The city of Chiang Mai is located in the mountains north of Thailand. Founded in 1296, it was the capital of the independent kingdom of Lanna until 1558. Its old town includes the remains of ramparts and moats testifying to its past as a cultural and religious center. It is also home to hundreds of elaborate Buddhist temples, such as the 14th century Wat Phra Singh.
Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand, located in the north of the country.
