AMALFI

Amalfi is a city located in a spectacular natural setting, at the foot of steep cliffs on the southwestern coast of Italy. From the ninth to the eleventh century, it was the seat of a powerful maritime republic. In the heart of the city, the cathedral of the Romanesque Saint-André, with a striped Byzantine facade, is a remnant of this era. The Museo Arsenale d'Amalfi is housed in a former medieval shipyard transformed into an exhibition space.
Amalfi is a very tourist town. The beauty of the natural site, the maze of narrow medieval streets and the particular mix of cultural influences from all over the Mediterranean have made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
